Martin Szul, Ph.D., is an instructor at Midwestern University (Downers Grove, Ill.), where he teaches courses in microbiology, infectious disease and precision medicine. His research focuses on characterizing arthropod associated virulence by Chromobacterium. He earned his B.S. and Ph.D. at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. Inspired by his graduate advisor’s passion for innovative pedagogy and his doctoral research on the metabolism and community interactions of the oligotrophic cyanobacteria Prochlorococcus, Szul strives to create engaging educational settings while integrating seminal research and evolutionary principals in his classroom.
