Sandy Fox-Moon, Ph.D.

Sandy Fox-Moon, Ph.D., is a professor of biology at Anne Arundel Community College (AACC), where she teaches courses in microbiology, biology and research. She earned a B.S. in microbiology from the University of Maryland College Park, an M.S. in biology with a microbiology focus at Old Dominion University and a Ph.D. in microbiology and immunology from the University of Maryland Baltimore. Her doctoral work focused on biofilm formation of the urinary pathogen Proteus mirabilis. Her publications include articles, papers and chapters on Proteus mirabilis biofilms, and undergraduate research experiences at community colleges. 
 
Fox-Moon’s interests lie in incorporating high-impact practices (HIPs) at the community college level and giving students opportunities to experience research outside of the classroom. She has been a co-chair for the AACC HIP subcommittee and currently co-chairs the ScIDEA committee, the AACC's science department’s DEIA committee. She is the founder of Team Proteus, a group of former and present microbiology students who experience various aspects of research, including performing and designing research experiments, writing journal articles and presenting at local conferences, including the local branch of ASM. She has been a presenter at the 2023 and 2024 黑料正能量Conference for Undergraduate Educators.
