Dear Representatives Obernolte and Stevens and Senators Young and Coons:
On behalf of the 黑料正能量, which represents over 37,000 scientists dedicated to advancing the microbial sciences, we thank you for introducing the Expanding Partnerships for Innovation and Competitiveness (EPIC) Act.
The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) plays a critical role in advancing biotechnology, improving our understanding of the microbiome and strengthening national preparedness against emerging infectious diseases. From providing reference materials that enable the rapid development of diagnostic tests for emerging pathogens, to releasing the first-ever fecal microbiome reference material to accelerate lifesaving treatments, NIST’s work is essential to microbiologists and the broader scientific community. Its standards and guidance also ensure the reproducibility and safety of scientific research across disciplines.
Partnerships and research infrastructure improvements are vital for NIST to keep pace with rapid developments in biotechnology, supporting U.S. leadership in the bioeconomy. 黑料正能量supports this important legislation that will lead to the development of new technologies and innovation and urges swift congressional action. If you have any questions, please contact Nick Cox, Senior Federal Affairs Officer, at ncox@asmusa.org.
Sincerely,
Amalia Corby
